EFFICIENT food loss & waste protocol user group

First User Group Meeting

By: Kyle Poorman

The Consortium held the first EFFICIENT food loss & waste protocol user group meeting led by Wageningen Food & Biobased Research. This is a Consortium for Innovation in Post-Harvest Loss and Food Waste Reduction supported project that was developed by Wageningen University & Research. Groups from around the world are now testing or planning to test the protocol in various food value chains. The institutions involved in this work are Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, EAP Zamorano in Honduras, ESALQ-LOG - Grupo de Pesquisa e Extensão em Logística Agroindustrial in Brazil, and the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA) in Argentina. Additionally, Wageningen University & Research has been testing the protocol in different food value chains too.

The Consortium is planning to have a public webinar in the near future to talk about the progress we have made since launching the protocol in March 2020. We also plan to highlight research coming out of this and take the wraps off the part of the protocol that suggests interventions to deal with loss and waste issues uncovered by an assessment.

We are still looking for researchers, businesses and other value chain actors to test the protocol and report on your findings. It is not too late to join the protocol working group. If you would like more information about the protocol or the working group, please contact Joost Snels from Wageningen. (joost.snels@wur.nl)
